Therapy Resource Guide

Thank you for reaching out to me. Unfortunately, I don't have availability to take on new clients at this time.

Even though we aren’t able to work together in the therapy office, you are deserving of care and healing. I have put together this referrals and resources guide to help you find a therapist that is a good fit for you. Click on the links below to be directed to my suggestions for finding the support you need.

THERAPIST DIRECTORIES

The majority of listed therapists will have a therapy office where they meet clients. Being in the therapy office can help you feel safe, connected, and give you a little distance from the stresses in your life. However, since the pandemic, most therapists are now also able to offer virtual therapy for folks located within their state/province.

ABOUT INSURANCE

Are you wanting to pay through your insurance?

Insurance is not the most straightforward system to navigate. Let me try to offer a little support.

First, not all providers accept insurance.

In fact, many therapists operate outside of insurance panels because it can be hard to get their fees reimbursed in a timely way, there are some limitations to client confidentiality, and registration can also be difficult.

Insurance can be an access barrier to folks who cannot afford therapy without it.

You have the right to inquire whether a therapist accepts insurance up front.

If you are hoping to use your insurance for therapy, one way to search for a therapist is to reach out to your insurance provider (online or using the number on the back of your insurance card) and request a list of "in-network providers of psychotherapy or counseling services". Most insurance companies can provide you a list of folks who are registered to accept and bill to your insurance, although you may have a co-pay. Also ask about your out-of-network benefits, as you might be able to get reimbursed for therapy with folks who don't accept your insurance.

Terminology

Therapists covered fully or partially by your insurance network (“in-network”) allow you to bill your session directly to your insurer, and if you have met your out-of-pocket deductible, your session fee will be your co-pay.

Therapists outside of your network may not be covered at all by your insurance (“out of network”). In some cases, your insurer may allow you to submit your payment records for some degree of reimbursement.

Other Considerations

Please note that couples therapy and sex therapy are not always covered by American insurance plans. Online therapy platforms like BetterHelp* and Talkspace are typically more affordable than other therapy modalities, but are less likely to be covered by insurance plans.
